This is my fourth year on staff. At LHS, I'm involved in tennis and Student Ambassadors. Outside of school, I like to play tennis and read.

Ryan Allen (left) and James Steinhaus are attending college with ROTC scholarships. Allen will be going to the University of Illinois at Chicago through the Naval ROTC program. Steinhaus will be attending the University of Illinois through the ROTC program.

Celia McDermott-Hinman is taking a gap year before attending the University of Michigan in 2022. During the fall and winter, she will be on a boat with 23 other students, helping with maintenance and taking marine biology and oceanography classes. For the rest of next school year, she will be staying in Germany with a host family while attending a German high school.

Juniors Jack Distenfield and Grace Cole began dating in the fall of 2019. When the pandemic started, they said their relationship felt as if it was long-distance, but with some normalcy and excitement when Distenfield dropped off candy or flowers at Cole’s door.

Seniors Cece Babat and Jack Regan were friends before they started dating in January. Similarly to Bruns and Holtzwarth, the start of their relationship occurred mostly outdoors, doing activities such as going for picnics.

Seniors Ty Holzwarth and Lily Bruns started dating as Covid restrictions lessened in June. The pandemic has encouraged a mostly outdoors-based relationship, consisting of frisbee golf and hiking, since that was the safest way they could spend time together.

Vanessa Zhang, a freshman, described the challenges of meeting new people via e-learning through Zoom. Normally, during in-person school, if she didn’t know people in her class, she could talk to and get to know them. Learning online makes this more difficult.

Molecular COVID-19 photo via the U.S. Army Drops of Ink staff members have found a new appreciation for in-class learning with their teachers and classmates amid the struggle of trying to stay motivated and focused during e-learning. The staff feels that after quarantine is over and students return to school, many will have a new perception of school and of their relationships with teachers and peers.

Catcalling doesn’t just take place in large cities; it also happens in towns like Libertyville. In order to make up for their low self-esteem, some men feel the need to harass women by catcalling, typically making the women uncomfortable and think negatively of themselves.
