Hey hey hey!! I'm Luiza Magalhaes and a junior. This is my third year on staff and I am Managing and Layout Editor. Outside of school, I am a synchro skater for Starlights Intermediate, and a coach! In school, I am involved in crew, specifically props. A fun fact about me is that my favorite city in the world is London!!

During the second quarter, the cheer team entertains the student section by chanting Libertyville’s school song. At this time the score was 20-7 Wildcats v. Lake Zurich.

Senior linebacker Max Frazin (68) is in position to hike the ball in the second quarter of the game. The Cats were up 13 points before halftime started.

At the Nov. 13 BOE meeting at Vernon Hills High School, Superintendent Denise Herrmann explains the background of the adoption of an operational calendar. She said that the district has “diversity beyond those four religions [Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism], among festivals, and many of the board members recognize that this could be an ongoing decision that we may face in the future”.

The Chamber Orchestra beautifully plays “Overture to Phantom of the Opera” by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Sophomore section leader Max Holland said, “My favorite part of the concert was definitely Phantom of the Opera because we had everyone in it.”

The Wind Ensemble and Percussion section of band join the Chamber Orchestra and the Symphony Orchestra to play “Ballet music from Belkis, Queens of Sheba” by Ottorino Respighi. They played“War Dance” and “Bacchanale” (from the Ballet).

The seniors sing Uptown Funk as their karaoke song to compete for the desired spirit cup. The senior class ultimately won the competition after a well put up fight.

The only string instrument player in the Wind Ensemble is senior Owen Gohr. He played the string bass in the “First Suite in Eflat by Gustav Holst.

The Symphonic Winds perform “Legends of the Galaxy” by Chandler Wilson. This was the opening song to their section in the concert.

The Symphonic Band plays “Flourishes” by Wiliam Owens. Freshman Sophia Rash, who plays the clarinet in this band, said that her favorite part of the show was “when we finished our first song, [because] it was so big.”

Senior Delaney Rogers plays the “Italian Serenade” by Hugo Wolf. She is the only double bass player in the chamber orchestra.

The wind section performs with the symphony orchestra. The french horns and the tubas carried out their part of the performance of “American in Paris” by George Gershwin.

Junior Mathew Reichrad and sophomores River Thompson and Nina Landvick, who are also members of the marching band drumline, stand by waiting for their cue to join the orchestra in performing “American in Paris” by George Gershwin.

Senior soloist Sam Chen leads the chamber orchestra in performing “Violin Concerto in e Minor, Op. 64 - Allegro Molto Appassionato” by Felix Mendelssohn. This was one of the last performances of the night and a powerful way to close the show.

Mr. Marino bows to the audience before starting the performance of the symphony orchestra. Marino said that he can tell that the students really care. “They really lock in to the moment and are really focused on doing things well,” he said.

Freshman Liane Lin, 1st violin, section leader and soloist for the concert orchestra, tunes the other members of the ensemble. The concert orchestra played three songs: “Fiddler’s Fury" by Alexander Safford, “Elegy from Serenade for Strings” by P. Tchaikovsky (arranged by Del Borgo) and “Symphony No. 8, Finale” by Antonín Dvorak (arranged by Dackow).

The Loop of Hope’s Instagram page features posts about mental health checks, messages of encouragement, and inspiring quotes and lists.

Senior Marcie Langtiw started Loop of Hope after she saw the stigma surrounding mental health. “I graduated eighth grade and I entered high school with a mission to empower the conversation on mental health,” she said. Langtiw hopes to continue to proactively prevent suicide and promote mental well-being.

“Carnaval de Bloco” means block carnival or a block party. These usually happen in a park or plaza by a neighborhood. There are decorations, speakers, and food and drinks.

Frevo is a type of dance performed with colorful umbrellas and costumes. Frevo dance movements include jumps, coordinated fast leg movements, leg flexions and tumbling. This is most commonly done in Recife, Brazil.

The Bahian Carnival is in Salvador, Bahia (an estate in Brazil). This type of carnival consists of parades that go through main streets. These parades have bright and colorful floats, such as the bird pictured here. People can dance and celebrate in a “pipoca” pit (mosh pit) right on the street or they can pay for a private cabin in a building.

The Fresh Spring Roll is an appetizer with a variety of vegetables and rice noodles. It comes with a sesame dipping sauce.

The lemon and salt edamame is another appetizer that is very simple but delicious. It is served in an uncomplicated dish.

Ms. Murphy in her office. Murphy is the post secondary counselor for the CRC. This is her first year at LHS. Her main focus in the CRC is working one on one with students.

Cardinale has been working for the CRC for four years now. Her favorite part of the job is talking to and getting to know students.
