
Hantavirus
On May 4, a strand of Hantavirus called the Andes virus broke out and infected multiple passengers on a cruise ship in the Atlantic Ocean.
As of Friday, May 8, there have been eight confirmed and suspected cases of the virus. The disease is extremely deadly with a mortality rate of nearly 50%. Tragically, three people have already died from the virus.
The Andes virus is the only form of the hantavirus known to spread from person to person. In addition, for it to spread, you must be in extremely close contact with another person.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, different U.S. agencies are working to bring Americans home as quickly and safely as possible. Also, as of May 8, there have been no confirmed cases of the deadly disease in the United States.
Health officials from all over the world are monitoring and tracking the outbreak to grasp the actual situation.
Denver Airport Incident
On Friday, May 8, a person who jumped a fence at and was in the middle of a runaway was hit by a Frontier Airlines plane at Denver International Airport. The collision reportedly caused a small fire and forced the pilots to immediately halt takeoff and carry out an emergency evacuation. The incident occurred around 11:19 p.m. local time as the plane was heading to the Los Angeles International Airport.
Everyone was able to get off the plane via emergency slide; however, 12 people did sustain minor injuries. Security and law enforcement are currently investigating how the incident occurred and how someone was able to get on the runaway in the first place.
