Deadly Shooting at Rhode Island Hockey Game

On Monday, February 17, a shooting at a Pawtucket, Rhode Island youth hockey game left three people dead, including the suspect, and three others hospitalized in critical condition.

The shooter, who has now been identified as Robert Dorgan, who also went by Roberta Esposito, appeared to have been targeting family members, and died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after opening fire.

An unidentified person in the stands has been reported of intervening in the scene, leading to the “swift end” of the tragic event, as reported by Pawtucket Police Chief Tina Gonclaves.

Local police have reported the incident as an isolated event resulting from a family dispute; however, investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Search for Nancy Guthrie Continues

The search for Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of “TODAY” co-host Savannah Guthrie, has recently entered its third week with minimal developments.

Guthrie was originally reported missing on Sunday, Feb. 1, and soon after, local authorities reported that she had been abducted from her home in Tucson, Arizona.

Despite multiple leads, including security footage of a suspect appearing to break into Guthrie’s home and a glove found with potential DNA, authorities have not yet identified any suspects.

The FBI and police are urging anyone who recognizes the suspect in the video or anyone with information to come forward.

Partial Government Shutdown Disrupts DHS Agencies

A partial government shutdown began on Saturday, February 14, as President Trump and Congress failed to reach a deal that would fund the Department of Homeland Security. This conflict comes after Democrats demanded changes to immigration enforcement conduct and the fatal shootings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti in Minneapolis last month.

Unlike last year’s months-long shutdown, the government closures are confined to agencies under the Department of Homeland Security, which includes ICE, TSA, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Since the closures on Saturday, neither the President nor lawmakers have shown signs of compromise on the issue, according to AP News. As the standoff continues, the shutdown highlights the deep political rifts that ICE activity has caused and how its effects stretch far wider than Minneapolis.
