This year will surely be the sweetest Turnabout yet: The theme this year is  Candyville, inspired by the classic Candyland board game. Turnabout will feature some new games and additions to the dance according to Jenny Pahng, Student Council Executive Board Member .

Before the actual dance, the Turnabout assembly will give a preview of what is to come. The assembly has undergone some changes as well.

Pahng shared that this year “we hired professional game show ‘gurus’ to come play games with us. The assembly will be game-show inspired in which we will be picking students from all the different grades, as well as teachers, to participate in a friendly competition,” said Pahng

Student Council has brought back some other features to the dance as well.

“We brought back most of the things that students missed out on last year. For example, we brought back the raised platforms on the dance floor and the photo booth,” Said Pahng.

According to Pahng, the balloon drop, which was taken away last year, will not come back with the other features. There are currently 10 students at Libertyville who have latex allergies; therefore, the school administration has chosen to cancel the balloon drop.

There are also some new additions that are truly Candyville themed as well. “This year we are converting half of the cafeteria to a full ‘candy bar,’” said Pahng.

Nonetheless, the overall response to the Candyville theme has been negative.

Abbie Gorman, senior, commented that “It has the potential to be juvenile, but could be cute if it’s done right,” she said.

Gretta Ebert, also a senior, shared a similar thought that “if it is not done right, it could look tacky,” Ebert said.

The decision for the theme is decided by all the members on Student Council. When voting for the Homecoming theme, Candyville was the runner-up choice and was put off until Turnabout.

The dance will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb 21. Tickets are sold online this year for $20 a ticket and $25 at the door. The ticket will not be necessary at the actual dance, so all that is needed is an ID to scan in.
