Boys varsity basketball defeats Stevenson 41-40 to take conference lead
On Feb. 10, 2023, the Libertyville High School varsity boys basketball team beat the Stevenson Patriots 41-40 to take the lead in the conference after previously being tied with records of 11-1.
The Wildcats were down 17-18 after the first half, but managed to bring it back with a combination of determination and teamwork. Senior Will Buchert (5) attributed their success to their cooperation, saying that “it’s just staying together as a team.”
Head Coach Brian Zyrkowski gave his thoughts on the game against Stevenson, a formidable rival for Libertyville in many sports including football and basketball. “I just think the game itself was two teams that knew each other very well [and] that executed their stuff well.”
The Wildcats have proven themselves to be a strong team this year, following a Feb. 11 win over York during an away game in Elmhurst. The final game of the regular season will be played on Tuesday, Feb. 14, against the Waukegan Bulldogs on the Cats’ home court.

"[We have] comfort knowing that everyone's kind of going through the same thing. It's kind of incredible.”](https://www.lhsdoi.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot-2025-09-25-3.14.42-PM-600x361.png)
