LHS Holiday Band Concert

On Tuesday, Dec. 13, at the Butler Lake Auditorium, the band groups — Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Symphonic Winds and Wind Ensemble — performed their annual holiday concert.

Traditionally every year, the song “Sleigh Ride” is performed, along with each musical group doing a different classical Christmas song. At the end of the show, all the seniors come out to perform the encore, “Sleigh Ride”.

This year, the Concert Band performed the songs “Sonus Ventorum,” “On a Hymnsong of Philip Bliss” and “Yuletide Festival.” The young musicians of these songs are all freshmen.

The Symphonic Band played “A Festival Prelude”, “Joy”, and “Adventum.” These artists are mainly freshmen and sophomores.

The Symphonic Winds band group played “Puszta” and “A Most Wonderful Christmas.”

The Wind Ensemble enjoyed playing “Suite of Old American Dances,” “Ave Maria” and “Characteristic Dances” from “The Nutcracker.”

The special highlight of this year was a harpist, freshman Anna Hirons. This year was the first time LHS has had their very own harpist.

There are a few additional performances coming up from LHS musicians. On Thursday, Dec. 22, from 6 – 7:30 p.m., there will be “Caroling at the Kettles” at the Macy’s located in Hawthorne Mall. There, there will be a mixture of all the band groups. The event will contribute to raising money for the army.
Another upcoming event will be the LHS Jazz Festival Concert, at 7:30 p.m. on the Jan. 19, at the Butler Lake Auditorium.
