A look on what it’s like to be a sports captain during fall.

With the fall season in full swing, all athletes are busy with their sports and school work. Captains have bigger responsibilities when it comes to managing their team. From talking to individual captains, the true nature of their roles and their sports come to life.

Senior Luka Nikolich (13) pushes himself past Mundelein senior Trey Thompson (14) as he makes a mad dash to the end zone. Nikolich and teammates sophomore Blaise LaVista (4) and junior Sam Seth (6) contributed to several successful runs during the game.

With three miles of course ahead, including a grueling hill-climbing finish, the boys cross country team shoots off the starting line to begin their journey on the Adler Park course – the team’s home turf. Such runners as senior Jack Barry take the starting steps in stride to secure strong finishes.

On Saturday, March 11, the D128 Special Olympics basketball team wins state at the Unified High School State Tournament Basketball Championship in Champaign, Ill.
