As 2025 comes to a close, we get to look back and see all of the exciting and interesting things that happened this year. But specifically, this was a great year for movies and TV shows. So here, being brought to you today, are some of my favorite (in no particular order) movies/shows released in 2025.
1. “Sinners”
Shown in theatres during mid-April, “Sinners” is set in 1932 Mississippi. Director Ryan Coogler does a great job at establishing the horror aspect by having the main antagonists be vampires but also at establishing issues of racial tensions during times of Jim Crow in the South. Michael B. Jordan playing two different characters was a great way to represent the dualities throughout the film. For “Sinners” being Miles Caton’s first role in a movie, he is phenomenal in the film and should be considered a top character. Over-all, it’s definitely worth watching and one of 2025’s best.
2. “Andor” Season Two
Released on Disney+ in April, season two of “Andor” picks up a couple years after the first season and about five years before the events of “Star Wars: A New Hope.” Like the first season, the show splits up its episodes into three-episode-long arcs. Despite this, you still feel like the show is cohesive and has an overarching storyline. “Andor” does a great job at taking characters that haven’t been seen much in “Star Wars” and fleshing them out into fan favorites that have a huge impact on the events that transpire. The final episode being directly before “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” makes that movie so much better than it already is.
3. “Superman”
Director and new co-chairman of DC Comics James Gunn wanted to reboot the DC Universe after the failure that was the DC Extended Universe. Who better to restart a franchise than the face of superheroes himself? David Corenswet was cast to play the Man of Steel, and he gives a great performance in the role. Specifically, Corenswet does a great job of showing how the character of “Superman” is supposed to be. Not to mention Nicholas Hoult and Rachel Brosnahan having standout performances as well. Superman currently sits at number seven on the 2025 Worldwide Box Office charts (as of Nov. 10).
4. “Invincible” Season Three
One of the biggest shows on Amazon Prime Video released its third season in February earlier this year. “Invincible,” the TV show adaptation of the comic book series by Image Comics, has been a hit since premiering in 2021. This season was no different. Starting right away, the stakes are much higher as Mark Grayson (played by Steven Yuen) has to prepare himself for more powerful villains as he has to fill the role as Earth’s most powerful defender. After criticism from fans last season, the animation has definitely taken multiple steps up and that is evident, especially during the season finale.
5. “F1”
Despite knowing pretty much nothing about F1 racing, this movie was a pretty fun watch. Brad Pitt and Damson Idris worked very well together as mentor/learner throughout the story. What really seemed to stand out, however, were the racing scenes. Besides being shot very well, each of the racing scenes were very intense and were abundant in memorable moments. “F1” sits at number six on the 2025 Worldwide Box Office charts (as of Nov. 10).
6. “Jurassic World: Rebirth”
“Rebirth” was the first installment in the “Jurassic” series since 2022. This film managed to capture the feel of the original 1993 movie but with the advanced 2025 cinematography and technology. The story follows two groups of people that both manage to get stranded on the island. Still, the story doesn’t feel disconnected and you find yourself interested in both of the groups and their goals. The same can be said about the characters, though there are a lot of them many get their time to shine in the film without overshadowing the others. Overall, this movie was a great way to get people interested in the franchise again.
7. “Fantastic Four: First Steps”
As you can see, it was a good year for superhero media. Therefore, “Fantastic Four: First Steps” could not be left off the list. Casting choices were a concern held by many going into the film. From the beginning, that was proven wrong as all four of the main cast worked well together to try and give off the family element that the “Fantastic Four” is all about. Galactus and Silver Surfer work great as villains to push the four to their limit in trying to save the Earth. This film was a step in the right direction for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which, as of late, hasn’t been as great as it once was.
