Tuesday Blues

Despite+having+the+better+reputation%2C+Tuesdays+are+actually+much+worse+than+Mondays.
Despite having the better reputation, Tuesdays are actually much worse than Mondays.

When someone asks what the worst day of the week is, most people’s automatic response is Monday.  When your alarm sounds on a Monday, it is hard to top the overwhelming feeling of sadness that washes over you.  The weekend is over and it’s time to get back to the grind and stress of school.  Most people are tired, bored, and school is the last place they want to be.

Don’t get me wrong, Mondays are pretty brutal.  However, when you wake up on a Monday morning, you are mentally preparing yourself for the atrocity that is about to ensue.  You know going into a Monday that it will be a rough day, which somehow makes it slightly easier.

Tuesdays, on the other hand, are a different story.  You don’t go into a Tuesday expecting it to be awful, but often times, it is.  While sitting in class on a Tuesday, one often realizes how slowly the week is going by.  The day and a half has felt like an eternity, and the week is not even halfway done.  Tuesdays have a funny way of sneaking up on you with how horrible they are.

Even though it’s rough to come back to school on a Monday, it is entertaining to see your friends and reminisce about stories from the weekend.  Conversing on a Monday is not difficult because there are usually things to talk about.  With Tuesdays, however, conversation is not quite as simple. The main topics are usually about  how exhausted you are and how stressed out you are about tests, quizzes, and homework.

Another minor factor contributing to the abomination we refer to as Tuesday is gym class.  If you are in a regular P.E. class like I am, you know that Tuesdays and Thursdays are “fitness days.”  Most LHS students can attest to the fact that fitness days are absolutely brutal.  Without having a fun game to look forward to in gym class, the rest of your day is somehow made worse than it already is.

However, LHS has taken a few measures to make Tuesdays slightly more enjoyable.  Due to the fact that every Wednesday is a late start, Tuesday nights are slightly less stressful knowing you can sleep in an extra hour, and you don’t feel as bad about binge watching Netflix until the early hours of the morning.

But keeping this in mind, you realize that the best part about Tuesdays is understanding that tomorrow will not be nearly as bad.  Tuesdays, in and of themselves, are the worst day of the week.

If you find yourself struggling to make it through a Tuesday, here are some good tips that may come in handy:

  • Remind yourself that tomorrow is a late start
  • Pretend to be sick and stay home
  • Weep softly
  • Remember that Friday is only a few more days away!
  • Weep violently
  • Take a long nap

So the next time somebody asks you which day of the week is the worst, cut Monday a little slack.  Mondays are not the best, but Tuesdays deserve to have the worst reputation.
