On Wednesday, Oct. 4, 112 girls of the class of 2024 came together to compete in the Powder Puff flag football game at the LHS football stadium, a longstanding homecoming week tradition.

The girls were split into two teams, orange and black, with the senior boys as their coaches and cheerleaders. In the end, the black team took the win with a score of 6-30.

Dozens of fans packed the stands and lots of excitement contributed to an electric atmosphere for the game.

The game was very competitive, with many teams opting to host practices to prepare for the game.

We had two practices, but we worked really, really hard on trying to make plays,” senior Brianna Valdez said. “We really worked well together.”

Others held much stricter practice regimens.

“We had practice three times a week,” senior Nicole Smith said.

Coaches were in charge of guiding the team through practice, creating plays and instilling team spirit.

“What helped us before the game was that we all came together and did a huddle,” Valdez said.

While the game was about skill, team spirit and determination seemed to give black the edge.

“We put our heads in the game, and we did it!” senior Megha Patel said.
