Boys volleyball puts up a tough fight against the Barrington Broncos

Senior Aleks Slesers (6), an outside hitter for the Wildcats, springs up to spike the ball as Barrington players position themselves to make their next move.

The Libertyville varsity boys volleyball team fought hard in a close game against the Barrington Broncos on Friday, May 12, 2023.
From the start, both teams were consistently close, often within a point or two. At one point the teams were tied 22-22. Ultimately, the Barrington Broncos ended up winning the first set, 25-22.
Freshman Jackson Kern (11) said that at the start of both sets, they started out well, but the couple of errors they made let them down.
Near the end of the second set, the Wildcats were trailing 21-23. The Barrington Broncos soon claimed victory by winning 25-22.
Despite their challenging loss, Kern thought that one of the proudest moments in his game was stepping up at the last serve and getting the ball over with his team.
Junior Gavin Shelagowski (15) felt that his team played well overall.
“It’s okay to lose tough games,” Shelagowski said.
Senior Braden Andersen (10) said that, for the future, the team would “try to use what we’ve learned from this game and use it to make us better.”
The Wildcats’ record is now 19-5 overall and 6-0 for conference. The final two games of the season will be away against the Stevenson Patriots on May 17 and the Glenbrook North Spartans on May 18.
