Andrea Lara

Name: Andrea Lara

Occupation: Social studies teacher

Tattoo: Feathers representing Native American culture

Q: When did you get this tattoo?

A: This is probably 10 years old now.

Q: Why did you get this tattoo?

A: I know a lot of people get tattoos because they hold symbolism; I don’t. I just like pretty things, and I thought [this] was really pretty and I am attracted to Native American images, and so that’s what [this] one is supposed to look like.

Q: Why do you think you don’t necessarily need a meaning when getting a tattoo?

A: Because for me, I think tattoos are more like art than sentimental, but that’s just me. Sometimes I feel that people try to push too hard to come up with a sentimental reason. What’s wrong with just saying, “I thought it was pretty art?”
