“Freshman year I was kind of like I’m trying everything out and I did Starlight Express, I did basketball that year and I also did track. I found that the most fun was the musical. Yes, it’s also stressful but it’s also fun – stressful, it gives you a rush and everything. Singing has always been my favorite thing to do so I decided I guess I’ll just pursue that because I found more joy out of that than running around, getting all sweaty.”

EJ Chen, the sophomore and one of few leads in the recent musical for Libertyville High School, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, expresses how the decision was for him to transition his focus in high school to the arts and theater rather than that of sports, like he was before high school and this year.
