Recipe for the Holidays

Holiday Apple Salad (a classic Mexican delight we prepare every Thanksgiving)

 

Serves 6-8 People

 

Ingredients:

 

4 Gala apples

1 large can of fruit cocktail

2 cans of media crema (mexican table cream –can get at Sunrise in Mundelein)

1 bag of small, colored marshmallows

Half a cup of chopped pecans

 

Steps:

 

  • First, chop the apples into small cubes.
  • Separate the liquid aspect of the fruit cocktail can and reserve it in the fridge for later.
  • Mix the fruits with the chopped apples in a large bowl.
  • Mix the media crema with the fruit mixture
  • Once thoroughly mixed, taste, and if needed, pour some of the liquid from the fruit cocktail can to increase the sweetness of the salad.
  • Mix everything well, and pour all of the marshmallows into the mixture.
  • Lastly, sprinkle the pecan on top of the salad as if it were the first blizzards of winter.
  • Place your mixture in the fridge for at least an hour before consumption.
