The LHS boys soccer team finished off their 2018 regular season with a 4-2 win against Lake Forest Academy at home on Oct. 9. The win marked the first undefeated, untied record the program has had in 42 years, an enormous accomplishment for the No. 1-ranked team in the state of Illinois.

In the eventful first half, the Wildcats secured three goals: one each from Mason Williams, Evan Rasmussen (the 50th of his high school career), and Mickey Reilly. The atmosphere surrounding the team seemed energetic, but at the same time, it was business as usual.

The second half proved successful as well, with Rasmussen scoring his second goal of the game.

With the clock winding down and the regular season coming to a close, the Wildcats now are looking forward to the postseason, where they’ve enjoyed recent success. The team won the state championship in 2015 and lost in last year’s final game.  When asked how far he expects the team to go, forward Brandon Murphy declared, “Back to the state finals.”.

The team’s success goes beyond their hard work and talent: “We’ve been playing together for years, so we’ve been getting along since fifth grade,” Murphy said. “We’re a well-developed team; we like to be with each other all the time.”

The playoffs start next week, with Libertyville hosting regionals from Oct. 16-20.
