Jimmy John’s Moves Mile

Jimmy Johns moved down the street to a more accessible location.
Jimmy John’s moved down the street to a more accessible location.

In late October, the sandwich shop Jimmy John’s moved about a mile down the road from its location near the corner of Buckley Road and Milwaukee Avenue.

The move gave the restaurant more space, a drive-thru, and a better location for business.

“Sometimes, [the intersection was a deal breaker] and if I was in a hurry, I would just grab food from someplace else,” senior Austin Fuller, a frequent customer of Jimmy John’s said.

For anyone going south on Milwaukee at any busy point in the day, it is almost impossible to turn into the old Jimmy John’s location. The new location is on the same side of the street, but far enough removed from that intersection that the turn will not be a reason for people to not eat their Jimmy John’s sub sandwiches.

The drive-thru will also be an added part to their new business. It is an aspect that they did not have in their old location, and will make them more competitive in their new one. If a customer is thinking about going to a drive-thru-type place, they have McDonald’s, Slott’s Hotts, and Taco Bell all within eyesight of each other.

“[The drive thru] helps. It gets you in and out in a hurry when you are on the go,” Fuller said. “You don’t have all day [on lunch release], but with the new spot, more seniors will go to Jimmy John’s for lunch.”

The bigger space is also a reason why Jimmy John’s decided to move. They used to have room for about three tables in the front of the store, with the rest being in the back near the bathrooms. Now they have a more spread-out location with most tables or booths within eyesight of the windows. They also have their own parking lot and do not have to share with a handful of other businesses.
