Louvre Heist
On Oct. 19, 2025, thieves staged a heist during museum hours at the Louvre in Paris, stealing around $102 million in jewels, including an inestimable emerald necklace gifted by Napoleon to his second wife. While high in monetary value, the sentimental and historical value of these jewels remains priceless. According to PBS, Prosecutor Laure Beccuau, the lead investigator on the case, 100 investigators are currently working towards solving this mystery.
Meanwhile, ABC states that authorities said it took the thieves minutes to ride up a lift on the side of the museum, smash display objects and steal eight invaluable historic objects.
“The robbery was ‘a wound for all of us,'” Rachida Dati, the Minister of Culture in France, said.
According to BBC News, French police report that thieves were inside the museum for four minutes, escaping on two scooters into the streets of Paris.
U.S. Government Shutdown & Travel Disruptions
Oct. 27 marks Day 27 for the ongoing government shutdown. While many civilians may argue that not much damage is done to their daily lives, travelers in particular are feeling the effects. With longer lines at TSA and minimal air traffic controllers, airports across the country are experiencing more delayed—even canceled—flights.
TSA and air traffic controllers are considered “essential” and required to work even without pay. However, without pay, many air traffic controllers are turning to second jobs to make ends meet, as stated by NBC News. With this shift away from their main occupation, many shifts remain open, creating disturbance on the runway and in the airspace. This forces pilots to communicate with each other, losing concentration and time.
Trump’s Asia Diplomacy Tour
During Trump’s Asia diplomacy tour, where the administration aims to create additional peace deals and friendly relations with many countries, US-China officials successfully reported that both nations had made major progress toward a deal. With the president’s meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping on Thurs. Oct 30 in Japan, this progress eases any preliminary tensions between the two countries, according to CNN reporters travelling on Air Force I
Furthermore, Trump has stated he’s willing to meet the Supreme Leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Un.
“I haven’t mentioned it, I haven’t said anything, but I’d love to meet with him if he’d like to meet,” Trump said. “I got along great with Kim Jong Un, I liked him, he liked me, if he wants to meet, I’ll be in South Korea.”
With a successful meeting in Malaysia, where the administration brokered several treaties, including a peace deal, Trump will land in Japan on Oct. 27, ready for the second leg of this tour.
