This year, LHS has welcomed several staff members who are eager to make an impact. Whether in the library, the science hallway, or the A-F LST, each newcomer has been drawn to this school by its strong sense of community and the DARING mission that emphasizes the need to be inquisitive, resilient and aware.
Librarian – Ms. Claire Greene
Popping by the library, it’s impossible not to notice Ms. Claire Greene, the new librarian. Scanning IDs or willing to recommend a good book, Ms. Greene has always wanted to work in a library.
At fourteen, she was first hired at her local library as a means to pay for college. Getting promoted and working many different jobs, she didn’t know it then, but this experience would be crucial to her finding her passion.
After receiving her undergraduate degree, Ms. Greene traveled across the world. From tutoring in Mexico to being a tour guide in Peru to teaching English in Spain, she loved getting to meet new people and experiencing different cultures.
“The whole time I was doing all those things, I kept thinking, the job that made the happiest was when I worked in a library,” Ms Greene said.
She decided to pursue this passion professionally this time by getting a Master’s in Library Science.
“I’ve known for a long time that the libraries are where I belong, because I’m so passionate about reading,” Ms. Greene said. “I love reading, and maybe even more than that, I really care about information, news and media literacy.”
She was specifically drawn to LHS to form connections—not only with students, but also with other librarians. She has always wanted to collaborate and brainstorm with others, especially other librarians.
“I think anything that you can do on your own is even more powerful and meaningful when you can share that work with someone who has a similar vision,” Ms. Greene said.
Chemistry Teacher: Ms. Danielwicz
The science hallway has also welcomed a new bubbly member: Ms. Erin Danielwicz.
Ms. Danielwicz has always wanted to be a teacher. Originally planning to teach math, taking AP Chem in high school quickly changed her mind.
“I took AP Chem in high school, and we were able to blow stuff up,” said Ms. Danielwicz. “And I said, that’s way cooler than math.”
Now she is excited to be living this dream by teaching chemistry to high schoolers. Even in a class mainly consisting of sophomores, Ms. Danielwicz has a chance to meet some upperclassmen as well.
“It’s been a lot of fun getting to know students, and it’s been really great to support them inside the classroom and outside as well,” Ms. Danielwicz said.

Ms. Danielwicz has been looking for this type of connection in a teaching job; this is what drew her to this school, specifically the DARING mission.
“I really love the DARING mission. I think that the community that is here between students and teachers and relationships is something I’ve always wanted as a teacher.” Ms. Danielwicz said.
Outside of school, this chemistry teacher loves to craft, bake and spend time with the people she loves. Most importantly, as a seasoned swim coach, she loves to swim. Currently, Ms. Danielwicz is getting involved with swim teams here and at Vernon Hills High School.
“Kindness is free,” Ms. Danielwicz said. “Kindness is something that you can give others, and it’s something that you can easily receive from others as well. I think our world needs more kindness.”
Counselor in A-F LST – Ms. Lori Felix
For her seventh year in education, Ms. Lori Felix has joined LHS as one of the newest school counselors in the A-F LST. She is thankful to be working at a school with a welcoming environment.
“People are always willing to answer my questions and guide me to the right person if I need more help,” Ms. Felix said.
She is currently looking to be involved in one of the school’s numerous activities. Fascinated with the Daily Bulletin announcements, she also appreciates the ability that the students have to create their own clubs.

“There are opportunities [to advise clubs], but I haven’t solidified what I want to get involved with just yet,” Ms. Felix said.
Outside of her counselor role, Ms. Felix loves to exercise, spend time with friends and family and read a good book.
“I’m always open to any book recommendations,” Ms. Felix said.
Even as the roles vary, all three highlighted newcomers share a common goal — building meaningful connections. In embracing the DARING mission, Ms. Greene, Ms. Danielwicz and Ms. Felix are excited to support students, both academically and emotionally, in a welcoming and vibrant community.
