Coolmathgames.com is a name that most kids know and is the bane of most teachers existence. Contrary to the name, Coolmathgames didn’t contain all that many math games. Instead, it was a playground of flash and HTML5 games that kids enjoyed so much that most schools ended up blocking it with their search filters. Coolmathgames has many iconic games, a lot of which bring up a ton of nostalgia for people like myself who played them when they were younger. So, I wanted to share my nostalgia for these games and rank my top 5 series. Enjoy!
#5: World’s Hardest Game
These games are… infuriating. You play as a red cube, trying to collect yellow pellets, avoid blue circles and make it to the green finish area. Easy, right? Nope. While they may not be the hardest games in the world, or the hardest games ever made, they still provide a difficult experience, which is still rewarding in its own way when you reach the end. Overall, it’s fun but be prepared to rage a little bit when playing it.
#4: Run
Run is a relatively simple series of games in the grand scheme of things. You play as an alien and… run. It features different levels, with each involving changing which side of the level your alien is running on, and also falling rock platforms. It really is a game that you have to play to understand. It’s a classic, and definitely worth a play for people looking for something to do when bored.
#3: Fireboy and Watergirl
Fireboy and Watergirl are a series of games in which you and one other person (or just you) control the titular characters as they work their way through a dungeon. Along the way, you use platforming mechanics in order to collect gems, avoid acid pits and make it to the end of each level. These games are fun when playing by yourself, but playing with a friend makes it even more enjoyable, as you both have to cooperate and solve each level by giving the other player access to certain places by stepping on a lever or pushing a box. I highly recommend it.
#2: Duck Life
The Duck Life series is one that a lot of people especially have nostalgia for. It has a charming concept that adds new quirks for each game, while still maintaining its core gameplay. The whole objective of the game is to raise a duck to become the fastest duck in the world, by training its stamina, speed, flying ability, swimming ability and climbing ability. Then, you compete in races, working your way up to beat the world’s fastest duck. These games are charming, and playing them is definitely worthwhile.
Honorable Mention: Poptropica
Poptropica used to be its own separate website, but merged with Coolmathgames last year, which is why I consider it an honorable mention. Poptropica involves the player going to different islands in order to solve the main quests involving obstacles, puzzle solving, and the use of items in order to finish the objective, which is specific to each island. I have a lot of memories playing this game (I still have my account from when I was 6), and it’s still a good game to play. However, due to the death of flash in 2020, Poptropica lost a lot of its classic islands, which is another reason why it’s only an honorable mention.
#1 Papa Louie’s
You’ve probably either heard of or played one of the Papa Louie’s games: from Papa’s Pizzeria, to Burgeria, to Scooperia, there’s a whole assortment of these games to choose from. Each of these games has you running a restaurant, taking orders, cooking food and assembling it for them, before getting a ranking based on how well you do. You unlock new food and ingredients along the way, as well as serving new customers. These games are timeless classics and have an interesting concept paired with fun gameplay, which makes the Papa Louie’s Games my pick for the top series on coolmathgames.com.
So those are my rankings! Remember, these are just my opinions, and you’re welcome to agree or disagree.
