As we near the end of the school year, there are many more things other than graduation that the class of 2025 has to look forward to.
LHS has created many senior traditions over the years, such as senior sunrise/sunset, senior assassin, the alphabet countdown, and so many more.
These senior traditions are one of the many reasons why students are often excited for their senior year. However, not all of these traditions are created through the school, some of them are created through the senior class along with LHS parents.
The beginning of senior year holds many exciting opportunities, such as allowing carpooling students to paint their respective parking spots that they reserved before the start of the year. Students can take full creative freedom with their parking spot, as long as it is school appropriate of course. Some ideas from past seniors include Twin 1 and Twin 2, from Cat In The Hat, Spongebob and Patrick Star, and Gilmore Girls.
Another beginning of the year activity is “Senior Sunrise” which is accompanied by the “Senior Sunset” at the end of the year. This tradition is quite self-explanatory, as students watch the sunrise/ sunset, symbolizing the beginning and end of their time as a senior here at LHS. With the senior sunrise in particular, students also bring water balloons, paint, and glitter to throw at each other/ decorate with before walking into the first day of senior year.
During the fall season many exciting things take place, such as lhs football games, powder puffs, and homecoming.
One unspoken rule through LHS is that senior and junior girls wear long dresses to homecoming while freshmen and sophomores wear short dresses. This same rule does not apply to turnabout.
As spring rolls around and the end of the school year approaches, there are many more senior activities.
Seniors are given the opportunity to participate in senior assassin, where students are given another student that they need to “eliminate” by shooting them with a water gun. Students will not be eliminated if they are shot while wearing their protective water floaties and goggles. The final senior standing will be awarded one-thousand dollars.
During the final month of the school year, many things take place. One of these traditions is the ABC countdown, where every letter of the alphabet is a different theme. Some examples of this are Adam Sandler day, Camouflage, and Frat. One of the most popular days is “Onto the next four years” day, where seniors wear a shirt with their future college/next steps on it, otherwise known as senior decision day.
As graduation comes closer and closer, staff host a senior meeting where they talk about graduation and prom, and even show pictures of LHS staff when they went to prom.
The final senior traditions of the year are graduation cap decorating, town banners of all seniors, and finally, after graduation the senior grad party takes place.
LHS tries their best to make sure that everyone makes many memories during their final year here in libertyville, and I hope that this article has helped you see all of the activities that are to come.
