On May 7th, 2025, the Libertyville Wildcats secured a victory against the Mundelein Mustangs with a final score of 6-5.
The Mustangs were first to get numbers on the scoreboard during the second inning when Mundelin’s shortstop Taylor Pyke (3) singled, scoring two runs. They added two more runs in the next inning, leaving the Wildcats in a 4-0 deficit at the middle of the third inning.
By the bottom of the third, the Wildcats were able to bring in three runs, leaving the score 3-4.
After a scoring drought in the fourth and fifth innings, a home run to center field by freshman Mckenna Weaver gave the Wildcats the lead, 5-4, in the bottom of the sixth.
A single by Kieley Tomas (2) of Mundelein helped the Mustangs tie the game at five in the top of the seventh.
After battling into the tenth inning, the Wildcats sealed the deal when catcher Maddy Kleeman (3) singled, allowing Zoe Kinsella (14) to score. “I have been playing since as long as I can remember,” Kinsella said. “I started travel softball in first grade.”
Senior third baseman, Emily Psyhogios (11), attributes their success to the team’s attitude. “Something we’ve set out towards as a team is having a positive mindset and always being invested in it,” Psyhogios said. “We’ve had a sports psychologist come in a couple times to help us work on it.”
Their next home game is on Thursday, May 15th, against the William Howard Taft Eagles.
