LHS bands join feeder schools for Band Festival

One of the pieces performed, “Cartoon,” captures the style of an old-timey cartoon. Instead of writing a program note for the song, which is traditionally done, seniors Jennifer Short and Katie Olson decided to write a four-page script to go along with it.

On Thursday, Nov. 14, in the LHS main gym, the four LHS concert bands joined students from Highland, Oak Grove and Roundout middle schools for the annual Band Festival.

LHS’s director of bands, Mr. Adam Gohr, opened the festival by thanking guest conductor Dr. Dan Barme, who led a mini-workshop for the bands that day.

The middle school combined bands started the concert with two pieces: “Foiled Again!” and “Blue and Green Music,” which is based off of the painting by Georgia O’Keeffe. Next, the Concert Band played their song, “Catalyst,” followed by Symphonic Band, “Of Honor and Valor Eternal,” and Symphonic Winds, “Dance of the Jesters.” The Wind Ensemble finished with “Cartoon” and “The Battle of Shiloh” before moving onto the two combined band pieces, “March of the Scaffold” and “The Star Wars Saga.”

Afterwards, there was a reception in the cafeteria where the Wind Ensemble raised money for the WISH class.
