Missing Gurnee woman, Anne Stroll, found dead

64-year-old Gurnee resident Anne Stroll was reported missing Monday, December 2, after her husband, Michael Stroll, notified the police when his wife did not return from her usual bike ride that she usually took through Libertyville’s Independence Grove. According to the Chicago Tribune and Huffington Post, Stroll left a note saying that she was going out for a “short” ride at about 1 p.m., but when she hadn’t returned by sundown, her husband expressed his concerns and notified the authorities.

The Tribune stated that Tuesday, December 3, a woman’s body was recovered by the Lake County Sheriff’s office at approximately 2 p.m. The body was found at the 32000 block of North Milwaukee Avenue in unincorporated Libertyville. There was no bike anywhere on or near the scene.

According to the Mundelein Review, the body was not confirmed as Stroll’s until later that night, due to further investigation and testing being needed. The final autopsy showed that the woman died of self-inflicted gunshot wounds. Stroll apparently had no previous history of mental illness.

There have been seemingly no direct correlations between this incident and the students and families here at LHS, according to LHS School Resource Officer Robert Uliks.

Uliks also said that the suicide rate here in the Libertyville area really fluctuates.

“Many believe that the winter months are the biggest months for suicides because of all of the stress of the holidays, which isn’t necessarily true. Spring is also a very big time of the year for suicides,” Mr. Uliks said.

For the students and faculty at LHS, it is advised that if you, or anyone you know, is considering suicide, please contact a social worker, counselor, or someone you trust, or reach out to the national suicide hotline at 1-800-273-8255.
