Giving power to those often overlooked

Drops of Ink gives a voice to the voiceless. A standard of the publication is that the staff should let people who have less power be heard, and that has been such an important thing to help shape the stories, pictures and layout design. Throughout this year, many ideas have been formulated around the unknown stories, pictures that may be controversial and designs that haven’t been seen before. One example of this was during a recent meeting that happens once a month to come up with the stories for the magazine and website, one very popular idea was to have a feature story on people who have come out as a part of the LGBTQ community for our upcoming Identity Issue. Although coming out stories aren’t unheard of, this is a way to have people talk about an idea that not all people will have in their life, and empowering, rather than diminishing, the rights of this community to be heard.
