The third annual color run, on May 6, will raise money for Gigi’s playhouse.

On Saturday, May 6, Libertyville High School will be holding its third annual Color Run from noon to 2 p.m.

Registration is open on the LHS webstore for $30 for anyone 5 and older and free for ages 4 and under. The price increases to $35 if participants register on the day of the race. The run is open to anyone who wants to participate.

According to Bridget Horvath, a member of the Student Council Executive Board who has been planning the run, an important factor that makes the event so successful is the involvement of a variety of people in the Libertyville community.

“We love having Libertyville clubs and teams at the run, but we also think that since this event is helping a local charity, extending it to the middle schools and other high schools in the area is really important,” Horvath said.

The run/walk takes place at LHS around the track and then around Butler Lake. Participants do not need to run and are splashed with color before and during the run, said Horvath.

The Color Run has became one of LHS’s biggest philanthropy events and this year, funds will be supporting Gigi’s Playhouse. Gigi’s Playhouse is an organization whose goal is to change the way the world views people with Down Syndrome. They offer free education and therapy to individuals and families who have been affected by Down Syndrome in order to help empower them.

For the charity selection process, LHS students were able to submit potential charities, which were then narrowed down to four options by Student Council. Small groups presented on the four charities and Student Council voted to decide the charity to support.
