An electricity transformer blew up near the Liberty Theater on Thursday April 17; the theater wasn’t damaged even though fire trucks and police cars gathered around the theater at around 10:30 that night.
“It sounded like fireworks,” Grace Hurley, a freshman who lives near the theater, said.
The transformer blew its breakers, according to the Libertyville Fire Department spokesman. The breakers are the part of the transformer that make sure there isn’t a huge surge of electricity that could cause damage. When the breakers blew up, there was a power surge that caused a power outage on the side of Milwaukee Avenue that has the Liberty Theater.
