“Come On Son”

Shawn Spencer is a hyper observant human being who is crazy for mischief, speaks fluent sarcasm and is the heart of the amazing TV show “Psych.”

Shawn used to skip around from job to job while he constantly screwed up every opportunity that he had for a normal life. Alongside this, he would occasionally solve crimes for the local police department by simply watching the news. Shawn could usually tell when a suspect was lying or was hiding something just by watching the way that they speak or where they look when they talk.

When he solved a crime for the Santa Barbara Police Department, they became suspicious about how exactly he came about the answer. They accused him of being a part of the crime unless he can give them an actual explanation. Of course, the first thing that comes to Shawn’s head is he’s “psychic.”

At first, the police don’t believe him (who would?), but when Shawn pretends to speak to an employee’s dead grandmother by speaking information that no one else would know, most turn to believing him. In reality, Shawn was able to conjure up the fact that the employee’s grandmother had died recently by looking at her desk, which held a lot of memorabilia.

When the chief of police hires him to solve a kidnapping as a psych detective, Shawn immediately jumps on board.

I absolutely love this show and how crazy it is. Whenever Shawn and his lifelong best friend and sometimes unwilling partner in crime, Gus, solve crimes, they always do it in the strangest way possible. I always loved how they would have to make sure they are one step ahead of the cops at all times.

Whenever the police are busy getting a warrant to search someone’s house, Shawn and Gus take that opportunity to break into the suspect’s house and search for clues before the police can find them. Once they find what they are looking for, they leave everything the way it was before they broke in.

Knowing all of the answers ahead of time only makes it more dramatic and hilarious when Shawn puts his fingers to his head and announces that he is having a “vision” while throwing his body around the room dramatically in the direction of something that would be of use to the police, such as a murder weapon. And, of course, when the police go in the direction that Shawn is having his “psychic” episode, they find what they have been looking for the whole time. Up to the point where I am in the series, season 7, Shawn and Gus have been able to keep the fact that he is not a real psychic a secret from almost everybody.

I am really sad to see “Psych” ending this year. Even though I have yet to see the current season eight, which is still airing new episodes Wednesdays at 8p.m. on USA, I can tell that it is going to be a good ending. Many of the characters have developed so much throughout the series. Shawn slowly became more mature with his decisions, and even though he continues to break the law, he has been doing it slightly less than before. In the beginning, Gus was very unwilling to help Shawn in his illegal ways of cracking cases, but now Gus barely has to be asked twice to join in solving a murder.

My favorite character, Carlton Lassiter, who is the head detective of the SBPD, has developed the most throughout the series. Carlton used to be a very mean and stubborn person who absolutely hated Shawn and Gus. He has become much nicer, however, ever since he got married to his ex-criminal girlfriend Marlowe, who he actually put in jail himself. Carlton has also become more capable of tolerating Shawn and Gus’s presence while on cases.

I think the only character that hasn’t really developed much at all was Juliet. She is the partner of Carlton and hasn’t really shown much of a change throughout the series. She was nice in the beginning and she continues to be nice in the end. That’s pretty much the only way to describe Juliet: nice. She doesn’t have that many other characteristics that are worth sharing.

Anyway, the show was off to a really great start in 2006 when it started airing, and I think that it’s going to have a very good ending in March when we finally have to say goodbye to the pineapple-loving cast of this incredible show. “Psych” is by far the best comedy/drama TV show that I have ever seen and I suggest it to anyone who likes to have a good laugh while solving crimes.
