Boys Golf Comes up Short Against Mundelein

Senior Danny Keating watches his drive down the eighth hole, a par three.

The boys golf team lost a matchup against Mundelein High School on Sept. 24 at Pine Meadow Golf Course in Libertyville.

The varsity team came up short, losing 155-166. Danny Keating finished with a score of 38, Aleks Slesers shot a 40, Ethan Lindberg had a score of 43, and Matt Hurh shot a 46.

Keating, a senior, said he was proud of his performance at the match. He especially liked his last two shots on hole nine and even birdied hole two, which was a par five. Keating said that he is thankful the IHSA is letting them play golf this fall, saying,  “I mean, we’re pretty lucky because golf is pretty socially distant.”

Coach Sean Matthews said that due to the pandemic, the usual sectional and state competitions would not be happening: “There is a regional, but that’s just going to be a geographical regional because they don’t want to play out of our county.”

The junior varsity team won its match by 12 strokes, 167-179. The JV team scorers were Leo Scopacasa with a score of 40, Wyatt Sorensen with a 41, Brennan Bleck with a 43 and Joey Kistler shot a 43.

The team has three remaining matches left in their season before regionals on Oct. 6.
