LHS boys tennis beat Zion-Benton on senior night

On Wednesday, May 2, the Libertyville boys tennis team played their Senior Night tennis match against Zion-Benton. Despite the fact that several of the Libertyville players were unable to compete because the Zion team possesses only nine players, Libertyville won each of the six matches and was done with enough time to take photos and hear speeches in honor of the five seniors on the team.

Junior Hayden Friese (in gray) battles Zion’s number one singles player; Friese won the first set 6-0 and the second set 6-1.
All of the seniors gather together with their parents for one last group shot before finishing out the night with cake and lemonade.
VIP photography arrived after the match to take individual and group photos of the five seniors [from left to right: Jack Higgins, John Scott, Kenny Herman, Nate Valley, Lewis Wang] and their families, commemorating their season and successes.
Senior John Scott reflects back on his four years on the team as he accepts his senior poster from Head Coach Dan Kiernan.
Recently retired coach Craig Hunter made an appearance and gave a speech on behalf of, as he stated, “the boys I have known since they were pretty much in grade school.” He had helped coach three of the current seniors on JV and the other two varsity players throughout their high school career.
Senior Lewis Wang retrieves the balls from Zion-Benton in preparation to serve the next game.
Senior Jack Higgins returns Zion’s serve while his partner, Hunter Friese, moves to cover the middle before hitting a winning volley.
Senior Kenny Herman tosses the ball in the air before serving up an ace.
