This is my third year on staff. At LHS, I'm involved in Track and Field and Students Supporting Equal Rights. Outside of school, I like to get tacos from Taco Maya in downtown Chicago because they are so good.

Christina Tuduri Poza, a senior at LHS, immigrated from Spain to the U.S. with her family right before starting freshman year. She is still able to keep in touch with her family and friends back in Spain with the help of her parents.

Different Spots Vacationed By LHS Students Over Winter Break

Mellody Farm, located across from Hawthorn Mall, is a shopping center that opened its first store, REI, on Sept. 14. There will eventually be 15 restaurants in Mellody Farm among the 50 total businesses.

Numerous department stores around the area have been closing down this year. Sears, one of the main anchors of Hawthorn Mall in Vernon Hills, closed because it was unable to compete with the lower prices in stores such as Walmart and they struggled as customers began to prefer online shopping over going to a physical store.

Annual Small Business Saturday is celebrated in Libertyville

Most of the local businesses decorated the windows and entrances of their shops, like The Runner’s Edge, in support of the shop local day.

Some stores in downtown Libertyville that participated in Small Business Saturday promoted it by putting flags and bags with the logo on the trees in front of their shops.

The shop how impressive! also tied balloons to the bench outside of their establishment as a symbol and recognition of the day.

Small Business Saturday was celebrated on Nov. 24, in downtown Libertyville. It is an annual shopping promotional day to encourage consumers to shop at and support local stores.

The annual tradition is celebrated by many families in Libertyville, and along with Black Friday, it is seen as a kickoff to the holiday season. Some of the stores even had special sales and discounts for this specific day.

Free passports were given out to the shoppers to be stamped by each shop that they visited. They could then submit their passports into a raffle of the shop of their choosing. Petranek’s Pharmacy set up a small table near the entrance to display their raffle basket.

A local shop called B Bungalow was decorated with bags supporting the shop local day. The bags had different sayings written on them: “Live. Love. Local” and “Eat. Drink. Shop. Local.”

In the spring of 2019, a two-lane road will be added by the old administration building that will lead into the back of the school; new parking spaces will be built alongside this road. As of now, the gravel road is fenced off because of the construction going on for the pool.

LHS recently received a package of souvenirs that state some of the reasons why LHS won the Blue Ribbon Award of Excellence. The blue sticker (bottom right), which is located on the window of the main office, was part of the package.

This year, Priyana Acharya has been training in ballet at the Joffrey Academy of Dance in Chicago and taking online classes to fulfill her graduation requirements. Next year, Acharya is deciding between being a trainee with Charlotte Ballet in Charlotte, North Carolina and the Joffrey Academy of Dance.
