After last year's embarrassing season-ending loss to Mundelein, the Wildcat football team would certainly be expected to redeem themselves in the first game of the 2010 season against Barrington.

Well, they definitely tried to redeem themselves.

But the WIldcats were hastily defeated by the Broncos, 41-28.

The Wildcats let up a staggering 28 points in the first quarter, including a touchdown on the first drive of the game and another on an interception return. From then on the Cats were playing catch up.

The Wildcats finally put points on the board in the second quarter when quarterback A.J. Schurr connected with wide receiver Jeremy Birck on a thirty-yard touchdown pass that gave the Cats a glimmer of hope.

The Wildcats would score again midway through the second quarter when Schurr and Birck connected again to bring the Broncos' lead down to only two touchdowns.

The defense even tightened up in the second quarter, keeping the Broncos scoreless.

Coming out of the halftime break, the Cats narrowed the Broncos' lead to only eight points after Schurr connected with running back Jake Duguid.

However, the Wildcats' defense, which struggled early in the game, had more issues late in the third quarter when Barrington's running game scored their second touchdown of the night, effectively killing all the momentum the Wildcat offense had built up.

Barrington controlled the game from then on, not really giving the Wildcats any chance to mount another comeback. Schurr added a rushing touchdown late in the game, but it was too little too late.

Though the Wildcat defense was pretty much non-existent, juniors Luke Mathewson and Bobby Borgeson provided a bit of excitement and consistency. Mathewson was a force coming off the outside on the blitz and did a solid job stopping the run late in the game. Borgeson had an interception before leaving the game late in the fourth quarter with an injury.
