There is a new sign for an old rule outside LHS which is directed at skateboarders doing tricks outside of the band wing of LHS.

Mr. Eric Maroscher, the assistant principal who is also in charge of safety said, “Unlike a skateboard facility, a school has people coming in and out of it as well as cars traveling through the parking lots. So much like places in town, a school is not the safest facility to do skateboard tricks around.”

Mr. Maroscher said that skateboards can be used as transportation, just not for tricks.

“Students may, as they have in the past, continue to ride their skateboards to and from school and continue to store them at school as most of them do,” he said.

Some students at LHS who skateboard disagree with this rule.

“I see where the school is coming from because of the risk of lawsuit, but there are much bigger problems at LHS. Putting up a sign won’t stop skating; it will only cause skateboarders to get tickets,” Matt Satchell, a senior at LHS said.

Another student who skateboards who requested to be anonymous because he didn’t want to be identified speaking against the policy said that “tricks should be fine.”

This sign was posted as a reminder to freshmen who may not know the rule, according to Mr. Maroscher.

“I think for the most part your serious skateboarders will appreciate being allowed to skateboard both to and from LHS, but also that this is not the appropriate venue for tricks and the like,” Mr. Maroscher said.
