The security department headquarters are located in the foyer of the bus entrance. It is large, white, quiet and, most of all, misunderstood.
Nobody really takes the time to appreciate the fact that we don’t feel physically threatened at school. Sure, Libertyville is a nice neighborhood, and not much happens here. We make jokes about living in a bubble and about Libertyville being a boring town, but really, that’s not true. And sure, not many fights break out at school, and as far as we know nobody comes to school with guns or pose serious threats to the student body, but do we ever think there might be a reason for that? The security department is discreet. They are quiet about their accomplishments and don’t talk about every problem the school encounters.
However, they never cease to protect the student body. What students don’t know is how much time and effort they spend daily to keep fights from happening and threats from coming true.
Security’s job entails staying out of the way and not telling us about events that will take away the very sacred security we feel at school, and I’m grateful for that. I understand that LHS isn’t perfect. I’m sure a lot happens that’s kept from us, but I would take ignorance over coming to school scared.
The security department is not just that big contraption by the studio theater. The security department is made up of people who are trained to protect us and spend their days looking out for us. They are quiet and deliberately out of the spotlight, but they never let the student body get seriously hurt. Maybe the town of Libertyville makes their job a little easier, but it does not make them irrelevant.
