The Wildcat football team took down the visiting Mundelein Mustangs on senior night, 48-7. The win, the Wildcats' first of the season, came after last season's loss to Mundelein, LHS' first loss to them in over 25 years.
After senior night festivites ended, the Wildcats were the first team to score when the dynamic duo of quarterback A.J. Schurr and wideout Jeremy Birck connected for a 10-yard touchdown pass. Senior Andrei Alvarez followed with the extra point, putting the Cats up 7-0 midway through the first quarter.
Mundelein kept pace with the Wildcats, scoring early in the second quarter off of a touchdown pass. However, that was all the Wildcats would give the Mustangs.
The Wildcats took control of the game from there on, scoring a remarkable 41 unanswered points, putting the game out of reach before halftime.
"Our third touchdown gave us the confidence we needed to finish it out," Head Coach Randy Kuceyeski said.
Sophomore running back Brian Swift, who played up on varsity for the injured Demarqus Wilson, dominated on the ground, finishing with two touchdowns on the night, including the touchdown that gave the Wildcats the lead.
Birck and junior wide reciever Sam Styler also finished with two touchdowns each.
