The school has decided to shut down the school on Fridays over the summer. This decision will effectively lock down the school from Friday to Sunday instead of Saturday and Sunday.
This decision comes for two reasons. Shutting down the school an extra day will reduce power usage and help with eco-related concerns such as paper consumption.
The change will also allow the school to save money in regards to energy billing over the summer. The district wanted to rework funding without cutting any programs. This decision allows all clubs and activities to remain open while giving the school the desired money.
All things considered, the plan will save $60-75,000 over the course of the summer. This number will fluctuate, depending on weather conditions and how many times the school rents itself out over the weekend.
Employee’s schedules will change due for this new plan. In an effort to compensate for the loss of Friday, summer-time staff will work an extra hour Monday through Thursday.
