Qdoba Review (pronounced Kyu-dó-ba)

Opened: May 14, 2010

Location: Corner of Rt. 60 and Milwaukee Ave. next to Hawthorne Mall

The food: Qdoba serves a variety of Mexican foods, similar to Chipotle. Customers have a choice between burritos, tacos, taco salads, quesadillas and tortilla soup. Fillers include grilled chicken, pulled pork, shredded beef, grilled steak, seasoned ground beef and vegetarian (consisting of zucchini, yellow squash and red peppers in a garlic-herb seasoning). If you order a burrito, you can make it a “special” by adding one of four sauces: Warm Three-Cheese Queso, Poblano Pesto, Ancho Chile BBQ and Ranchera.

The atmosphere: With its rustic southwestern décor, Qdoba looks similar to Chipotle. It is also about the same size, which makes it pretty cramped during the busier times. Outdoor seating is also available for nicer days. Food is ordered in an assembly-line fashion, and customers pay at the end of the counter.

The prices: Prices at Qdoba are quite agreeable. A chicken burrito and a small drink totals just over eight dollars. The specials are not much over this price, and tacos and quesadillas are a bit under. Overall, the food was worth the price.

The verdict: Qdoba is basically the same restaurant as Chipotle--and almost as good. While the food quality is not as high as Chipotle, Qdoba does have a bit more variety with the sauces, and has a few more options such as quesadillas. People who like Chipotle will love Qdoba. With good food and reasonable prices, this new restaurant has potential to be on everyone’s favorite restaurant list.
