In December, right before winter break, the school finished a multi-year project that installed two large projectors into the Main Gym.

For around four years, Libertyville had been targeting to install projectors in the Main Gym. The funding for the projectors, screens, and speakers came from the district’s Board of Education through the school’s budget. The overall total came to around $50,000, according to Athletic Director Briant Kelly.

Physical and financial obstacles were problematic, the main reason the projectors took as long as they did to become reality. Physical obstacles included the basketball hoops, which needed to continue to be able to fold into the ceiling during different events in the Main Gym. The projectors are large, so the ceiling height and location of the beams in the ceiling were also dimensional hurdles.

The projectors will be used for many different purposes, including class meetings, awards ceremonies, assemblies, and other school activities. So far, the projectors have been used for the class meetings that were held Jan. 18.

“A lot of set up time was cut down [by installing the projectors],” Mr. Kelly said.

Assemblies and other gatherings used to take a lot of time to set up for because the screen, speakers and a projector had to be brought into the gym.

“It took a lot more time to set up from scratch,” Director of Student Services Ole Stevens commented after he oversaw the new projectors during the class meetings. “All you have to do for set-up [of the projectors] is press a button and it is ready.”
