Walking through the halls at LHS there are a plethora of posters, including one that reads, “Hey juniors! Feel lucky?” These posters are referring to the opportunity for juniors to receive lunch release. Any junior who goes to 10 of 12 classes offered on the computer program Keytrain before April 27 gets two days of lunch release.
Keytrain is a computer program that helps students gain knowledge and skills needed for the ACT exams.
Juniors who sign up go to room 122 during one of two lunch periods and then take a test, on Keytrain, evaluating which areas need the most work. This allows students to get more practice with the areas they don’t excel at.
Those students who go to at least ten classes get to pick their two days of release.
"I did not like the program at all, and I did not feel like it helped," Junior Tony Rossetti said, "But, I am very happy about that part (lunch release)".
They can get a ride with a senior to the locale at which they will eat lunch, or they can walk somewhere that is close.
This prize was decided upon because “it is a nice motivation with the weather being nice,” Business Ed. teacher Mr. Reichert said. “Since they are juniors, it gives them a chance to get a taste of what senior year will be like.”
