If you could be famous for writing any book, which would it be? Why?
Anyone who has been in my American Literature class would know the answer to this. I would love to be accredited with writing my all-time favorite book, The Great Gatsby. Alas, Fitzgerald beat me to it, but I’ll still reach for that green light anyways. I would love to write a book of my own someday.
What’s your most embarrassing moment?
Unfortunately, there are many to choose from, but one story I recently told my students about was when I went on a first date to see "Marley and Me". The movie doesn’t end well for the dog, and since I am a big dog-lover, the date didn’t end too well for me either. And we aren’t talking about one tear gracefully sliding down my face either. I was a mess – tears, snot, shaky shoulders, mutterings of how I just "really like dogs." Needless to say, he didn’t call again after that.
What’s the craziest thing you did in high school?
I TP-ed my coach’s house every season. So crazy, I know. Just don’t get any ideas, track team.
Snowboarding or skiing?
I am a decent skier but have always wanted to try snowboarding.
Pop or Hip-Hop?
Country. Oh wait, was that not an option?
What three things can you not live without?
I might be breaking a rule with this answer, but I can’t live without the people I care about (family, friends, my boyfriend, Paul, the amazing people I work with, my students). Since that is more than three and it says "things" not "people", I’d have to go with my cell phone, a pen, and my running shoes.
What was your senior prank?
Sadly, we didn’t have one. We discussed letting two pigs loose in the school, one labeled "one" and the other labeled "three," but those were just pipe dreams. No one had any pigs to spare anyways.
Do you have any superstitions?
Not really, although I do "knock on wood" sometimes. My grandfather also told me that if I counted the cars on a train, someone I knew would die. As a kid, that freaked me out. As an adult, I no longer believe what he said, but you still won’t catch me counting the train cars either!
If your students had to describe you in one word, what would it be?
Jackson Smith, one of my students, asked me in the middle of class this year if the Dunkin Donuts lady added a shot of espresso to my coffee in the morning. Based on his comment, I would say my students would describe me as energetic.
If you had to choose between a million dollars and being able to fly, which would you choose?
If I was able to fly, I would probably get the best of both of those worlds. So I would fly. It would probably make my commute to work much easier in the mornings too, come to think of it.
If you could live during any time period, which would it be? Why?
I have always told my students that I would like to experience life in the 1920s (which filters from my obsession with The Great Gatsby). Between the jazz music, acceptance of culture, and fun new styles, it would be a pretty interesting decade to witness.
