The girls gymnastics team is 2-2-1 so far and is on the road to state. Although there was a rocky start, “We’ve progressed well and had a lot of improvement,” stated senior Lindsay Schweitzer.

The team competed in regionals during the first week of February and expects to do well. Gymnasts Rachael Metcalf, Jenna Dunsing, and Schweitzer have advanced to sectionals within their events. Gymnasts Lee and Metcalf also qualified for state. The team as a whole also made it to sectionals.  Prominent signs include players stepping up to the plate, big meets being won, and a lot of determination.

“I think we have a good chance of going far,” happily stated Schweitzer.

Specific players mentioned who go above and beyone include Mariah Lee and Jenna Dunsing. Mariah Lee, a sophomore at LHS, “...practiced a lot over the summer and proved to be really good,” said Schweitzer.

Junior Jenna Dunsing became the conference champ for the beam, being one of the key players for the team.

The team lost several players to injury, but continues to prevail. Some injured players were Grace Boyer, Lindsay Schweitzer, and Tori Metcalf. Boyer had a torn ACL and was unable to compete during the second half of the season, Metcalf had a strained knee, and Schweitzer dealt with wrist pain the entire season.

One big meet for the team was the Warren meet, which they won by a lot, 143.75-141.00.

“The season has been great with several positive moments,” said head coach Mr. John Taylor.
