Libertyville High School alumnus wide receiver, Kevin Walter, caught two passes for 25 passes for the Houston Texans in their second round playoff loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Walter was one of only two Texans receivers to catch a pass in the January 15th matchup. On the last play of the game, Houston was down by seven, and the quarterback bombed the ball to Kevin Walter in the end zone, but the pass was deflected, and the Texans lost 13-20.

Walter caught one pass that went for 11 yards for the Texans in their round one playoff win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday, January 7th. The win was in the first playoff game in their franchise that started in 2002.

He played on Varsity for three years at LHS, where as a junior, Walter caught 17 passes for 201 yards and two touchdowns and was named to the all-conference team. In his senior year, he earned first-team all-state honors as he led the team with 48 catches for 801 yards and also caught 6 touchdowns. Libertyville went 10-1 that season.

Walter attended Eastern Michigan University for college and prospered while there. His 211 receptions, 2,838 receiving yards, and 20 touchdown catches throughout his college career were all university records. In 2002, as a senior, Walter received first team All-Mid-American Conference honors after breaking school records for receptions (93) and receiving yards (1,368).

Walter was drafted in the seventh round of the 2003 draft by the New York Giants. After Walter was released by the Giants before the 2003 season, he was signed by the same Cincinnati Bengals that he helped defeat in the playoffs this year. In three seasons with the Bengals, Walter caught 30 receptions for 296 yards including his first NFL touchdown in 2005.

After the 2005 season, Walter went to the Houston Texans as a restricted free agent. In his first year with the Texans, he had 17 receptions for 160 yards. But after Pro Bowl wide receiver, Andre Johnson got hurt in 2007 Walter finished ’07 strong catching a career-high 65 balls for 800 yards and four touchdowns. To follow that up in 2008, he had 60 catches for career-highs in yards (899) and touchdowns (8). In the last three years combined, Walter has 143 catches for 1,706 yards and 10 touchdowns.
