All registration for the 2010-11 school year was processed online, and all incoming freshman were required to prove their residency within the attendance boundaries of LHS.

While the online registration is brand new, the software was rolled out last year. It was used in the past for payment of AP testing fees and the school's ACT prep class.

All parents were required to complete registration online this year. However, payment of fees online was optional. The school sent home a paper copy of required fees with preliminary registration in late June.

"Well, it is about time. I do everything on line, checking grades, paying bills, research, read books, check the weather etc." said parent Karyn Dobson.

The school had computers available in each LST for those who do not have access to a computer at home or require assistance completing registration.

District 70, which consists of all elementary schools in Libertyville as well as Highland Middle School, also used online registration this year.

Also new to registration this school year was a requirement that all incoming freshman prove their residency within LHS' boundaries. All other students were not affected.

Freshman were required to prove residency by showing the school one of three types of documents proving that the student lives within the district.

One of the documents needed to be proof of ownership or lease of a property, like a mortgage statement or a signed current lease. The two remaining documents needed to be either a utility bill, a voter registration card, car insurance or registration, or a public aid card.

The new policy was designed to prevent parents from cheating the system by sending their child to school in a district where they do not live.

"Residency is defined, in the simplest sense, as where a student lays their head at night,"  Student Services Director Ole Stevens said.

Students whose parents own property within the boundaries of LHS but do not actually live on the property are not eligible to attend school at LHS.

Students from any grade level who move during the course of the school year are also required to prove residency once they move to a different home within the district.

District 70 also has required proof of residency for students entering kindergarten, third grade and sixth grade.

A complete breakdown on what was required for proof of residency can be found here.
