This past summer, LHS experienced some drastic changes and updates in renovations and technology in order to become more modernized.

In the family and consumer sciences hallway, many students have noticed multiple changes that have transformed the classrooms, such as more storage space and a completely new look. One change is sliding white boards with shelving units behind, which LHS teachers noticed on a visit to Grant High School.

“We had to have them,” laughed Dr. Deb Kellum, applied tech supervisor.

In addition to the white board storage units, the FACS rooms have also been updated with tile backsplashes in each kitchen (total of 12); new countertops and sinks; new ceiling fans over every kitchen; and a fresh layer of paint. This budget was provided by the school board working together with Marty Richardson, Building and Grounds Director, and the LHS administration.

Other significant updates occurred in the library classroom. The green chairs of previous years have been replaced with less squeaky black ones. The classroom also has new desktops and has been wall-papered.

In the basement, rooms 019 A and B have been connected and are now being used for Link Crew meetings during lunch periods (see picture). The room connection allows for more engaging activities, as there is a large open space.

"I think the school did a great job with moving rooms around for Link Crew. It really showed how much LHS was willing to support it as a program. It's a great way to help freshmen through high school and having a space dedicated just to Link Crew is great!" said senior Lily Nedland.

In addition, the floor in the woodworking room has been painted with non-slip paint and a cage has been added to keep all potentially dangerous equipment in.

Room 002 (used for “Project Lead the Way”), and room 015 (used for Graphics) have received new computer desks. The desks include storage space behind the screens for wires and shelves under the desks for computer monitors.

“The new desks are very student friendly and really help maximize the available work space,” added Dr. Kellum.
