It is true that Alex Freyman, senior at Libertyville High School, sent every senior a candy gram. Many students were shocked the week before winter break when 503 candy grams were delivered to every senior during their third period classes.

Mr. Greg Herman, Science Department Coordinator at LHS, said that in the history of his 33 years of teaching he has never heard of a senior sending every senior a gram.

Freyman’s motive for sending every senior a gram was very simple: he had always wanted to do it.

“My friends and I have been planning to do it since sophomore year,” said Freyman.

To buy every gram, Alex had to convince his parents to pay for it.  He asked his parents if he could do the candy grams as one of his Christmas gifts.  He sacrificed his own Christmas for every senior because he wanted to.  It was the number one gift on his wish list.

The candy grams cost a dollar, but Freyman received a discount of $350 for 503 total.  The money went to Mr. Herman’s W.I.S.H class.

“Our class raised just about a $1,000 and Alex contributed to half of that,” said Mr. Herman.

Some students said that if they had the opportunity to send every senior a candy gram, they would too.

“If I had the opportunity to, I would because Alex Freyman showed that he had support for our class and that he cares about everyone,” said Britt Clarke.

On the other hand, some seniors said that they would never send a gram to every senior.

“Personally, no, I would never write every senior a gram but, I’m no Alex Freyman,” said Gage Seyl.

Many of the candy grams were personalized by Freyman with inside jokes. He said it took him about eight hours to write a message on every gram. While writing them, he had his friends help him. The majority of the grams said motivational sayings like, “stay golden,” “keep it real,” and “stay classy.”

“My gram was an inside joke between Alex and I which we’ve had for years that only us two understand that we both find funny,” said Stephen Skul.

Freyman got a Facebook post on the senior fan page by senior Luke Mathewson thanking him for the grams.

“Thanks to Alex Freyman for the candy grams! That was awesome,” wrote Mathewson. This was posted on Dec. 14, 2011, and there were  177 likes and 4 comments. All were from his classmates agreeing that they thought it was awesome.
